“Since 1986, my mentor has been the premier studio for recording, rehearsal, and education for Chicago’s south side. Situated just 10 minutes from the main loop, I have been privileged to entertain many illustrious names from Smokey Norful and Albertina Walker to Hall and Oates and Willie Williams. For some years now this studio has been home to the recording branch of Entertainment Connection. Interns enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and dedicated training suite encompassing multiple rigs for practice and teaching, whilst having a varied schedule of sessions to observe and learn from the engineering team.
I came to Chicago from London, England, by way of the Faroe Islands. Since the age of 13, I have studied music and am a classically trained Trumpeter, Percussionist, and Singer. During my service of 10 years in the British Army, as a musician in the Scots Guards, I travelled to over 40 countries and enjoyed playing in many of the world’s concert halls and sports stadiums. A particular highlight was a 3-month tour of USA and Canada, undertaking 92 cities in 110 days. Upon leaving the Army, my career developed to conducting and training ensembles of all types and standards.
Alongside this, an increasing interest in the art of recording came to the force. This has continued throughout my playing, composing and conducting engagements. In 1996, I moved from Great Britain to take on the position of Principle Percussion with the Faroes National Orchestra and Musical Director of, “Faroe Brass”, which is the Brass Band of the Faroe Islands. This appointment lead to more recording (both sides of the glass), and gave me the chance to not only produce and play, but to start engineering.
In 2005, I married and immigrated to USA. At the time, I was eligible to obtain employment the opportunity to take the Recording Connection course. Studying at my mentors’ studio, I graduated just as an opening was available for the General Manager position in my own mentors’ studio. My management and teaching abilities, combined with recording talents, enabled me to fill the position. Since then, I have headed the great team of engineers (who all are graduates of Recording Connection) bringing a new outlook and focus built on the fine traditions set up by previous recording mentors at this fine recording establishment.”
