NU JAZZ

NU JAZZ MUSIC PRODUCTION COURSE

Learn the Genre from EDM Pros

The Recording Connection audio school alternative is a one-of-a-kind externship program that puts you in a real recording studio with a professional nu jazz artist, producer, or engineer.

Hands-On Training for the Nu Jazz Genre

As part of our electronic music production program, you’ll get one-on-one training with Ableton, Logic Pro, or other digital audio workstations (DAW) in a real-world environment. We believe that a great way to learn is to be mentored by a professional who has extensive experience with nu jazz, either as an artist or engineering and producing other artists.

If you’re serious about developing yourself as an electronic music producer, in nu jazz, acid jazz, hip hop, or other electro styles, it’s critical to immerse yourself in the studio and virtual environments. Through one-on-one training and hands-on experience, you learn how to harness the power of a DAW to explore your own niche in the vast landscape of the genre.

What Is Nu Jazz? (In Place of “BROWSE LESSON PLAN”)

While the term “Nu Jazz” didn’t emerge until the 1990s, the style of music behind it has been evolving as a subgenre of electronic music for more than four decades. With its roots in the electronic-infused experiments of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis, Nu Jazz is loosely defined as the blending of jazz with other musical genres.

Nu Jazz takes funk, soul, and electro-dance influences and merges them with electronic elements, creating what’s also known as electro-jazz, jazztronica, jazz house, and a number of other nicknames. Just as jazz itself explores a wide range of sounds and styles, its electronic cousin is known more for its experimental elements and constant evolution rather than a specific sound.

Learn Nu Jazz Music Production on Your Schedule

What sets Recording Connection apart from traditional in-person educational opportunities is the freedom to choose how, what, and when you learn. Universities, trade schools, and other standard institutions require prerequisites, offer set syllabi, and offer set hours and days. With us, you’ll work with your mentor and Academic Facilitator to help guide your nu jazz curriculum.

After all, working as a nu jazz audio engineer, producer, or artist isn’t a normal day job. We’ll find a schedule that works for you through collaboration as well as craft lessons around your experience. Why should you be forced to learn something you already know? The core lesson plan will definitely make sure you have the fundamentals you need but your lessons and focus will be influenced and informed by your experience.

Meet Our Mentors

Unlike teachers or professors, producing nu jazz music is the first priority for our mentors. You’ll learn in their studios, work with their gear, and learn how to make music in today’s world.

Hundreds of Locations Around the World

Recording Connection has been building a roster of mentors for three decades. With more than 300 studios, we’ll find a mentor near you to help with your audio engineering and music production skills.

FAQs

What are the characteristics of nu jazz music?

Nu jazz can draw from hypnotic house rhythms, ambient soundscapes, and of course tons of pure improvisation to arrive at its sound. While the use of synths and drum loops are common to this style, you’ll also hear plenty of acoustic instruments and/or samples in the mix.

How long does the program last?

You’ll learn nu jazz music production as part of our electronic dance music production program, which lasts around six months. This is much faster than traditional four-year university or trade school degree programs.

Do I need to have prior experience?

Not at all. Whether you’ve been producing nu jazz on your own for a couple of years or have zero musical experience, we’ll create a lesson plan that suits your needs while also aligning to the fundamentals all electronic music producers need to know in order to build careers they love. Tell us what you need, what you want, and what your plans are for the future. Let us help you make it happen.
