Meet Recording Connection Mentor Brian Tarquin

The Recording Connection is very pleased to count prolific composer and guitarist Brian Tarquin among our mentors since October of 2013. As founder and owner of Jungle Room Studios, BHP Music and notable music publishing Film Trax and author of several books, Brian is one busy music industry pro! He’s built a very solid and varied career for himself and has three Emmy awards for his music for television to show for it.

Here’s an excerpt from Brian’s bio:

Multi-Emmy-Award-winning composer/guitarist Brian Tarquin has established himself as a top rate TV composer/ recording artist and owner of Jungle Room Studios. He has been nominated for an Emmy 6 times and won in 2002, 2003 and 2005 for “Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series” In 2006, SESAC (Society of European Stage Authors and Composers) honored the Tarquin with the prestigious Network Television Performance Award.

In 1997 Tarquin had his first highly successful release, gracing the Billboard’s Top 20 with This is Acid Jasz, Volume 2. Then came several solo jazz albums ranking in the Top 10 at Contemporary Jazz Radio in the late 90’s. Tarquin then recording four solo albums (1996 to 2001), Ghost Dance, Soft Touch, Last Kiss Goodbye and High Life. His music and/or guitar playing has appeared in over 32 releases and sold more than 140,000 records to date.

2008 would see the release of Fretworx, a true guitarist’s and guitar-lover’s album that paid homage to the people who lost their lives in the attacks of 9-11. Fretworx showcased a host of guitar greats including Franck Gambale, Steve Morse, Andy Timmons, Billy Sheehan, Will Ray and others. Original, exclusively-released tracks by some of rock and jazz’s greatest artists appear on the album as do rare tracks from Santana, Steve Vai and Tommy Bolin. Personal liner notes from Hal Lindes of Dire Straits also appear on the album.

Tarquin’s other accomplishments include composing the theme music for MTV’s Rules and producing music for other well-known TV shows like CSI, TMZ, ABC’s Making The Band, Extra, Alias and the film, The Watcher, starring Keanu Reeves and Marisa Tomei. For a number of years, he has also producer and/or composed for many notable music production companies including Megatrax, First Com, Sonoton, Zomba Music and One Music.

In 1998, Tarquin formed the electronica/rock band, Asphalt Jungle, which composed the MTV Road Rules themes, “Tekken” and “Witchcraft.”
