How it works
How The Recording Connection is Different
Whether you’re just finishing high school or looking to start a new career in the music industry, conventional wisdom says you need to go to a four-year university or trade school, compete with a classroom full of other mentees for the teacher’s attention, and carry a bunch of student loans. And maybe you’ll get to work the gear during lab time and when you’re done you’ll get a diploma to frame.
The Albuquerque Recording Connection has a better way. We offer audio engineering and music production programs that last six to nine months at a fraction of the cost. Instead of a teacher who used to make music, you’ll work with an engineer or producer in their professional studio, working on state-of-the-art gear, and getting immediate feedback on your work and answers to your questions.
We hit different and here is why:
There’s no doubt that many “traditional” careers require a certain way of learning. Spend four years at university, earn a degree, and enter the workforce with that piece of paper. Some professions require exams even outside of school or additional years in a classroom before you’re deemed ready to ply your trade or practice your craft.
We just don’t feel the music industry is necessarily “traditional,” though. That’s why we created Recording Connection. We get mentees out of the classroom and into the recording studio. While there are still required reading, exams, and finals, we feel getting your hands dirty from the start is the best way to learn AUDIO ENGINEERING AND MUSIC PRODUCTION IN ALBUQUERQUE.
That’s why we pair you with a PRO MUSIC PRODUCER inside a PROFESSIONAL ALBUQUERQUE RECORDING STUDIO, learning the ins and outs of how music is made in today’s world. There are no prerequisite classes to take and no predetermined schedules to choose from. Along with an Academic Facilitator, you and your mentor will craft a curriculum that best fits your needs.
There are standard elements everyone in the industry should know of course, such as the physics of sound, music theory, and other hard and fast rules of course. But your mentor will fine-tune the experience to fit your career goals, help you build a portfolio, and assist in creating your brand.
But you really have to want it. This is not a hobby to our mentors, real word ALBUQUERQUE MUSIC PRODUCERS. This is their profession and it could be yours, too. We’ll give you a foundation, but you’ll have to take the initiative. You begin to learn when to ask for help, when your mentor needs your help, and when an artist expects your help.
In the music industry, who you know matters almost as much as what you know. That’s why getting you in front of industry professionals ASAP is so important. It’s one thing to read about how an analog recorder works, it’s something else entirely to use one during a live session.

As Covid protocols introduced us to such terms as personal quarantines and social distancing, many educational facilities were forced to shut their doors while creating solutions for their mentees. Recording Connection never missed a beat. We’ve been offering remote learning options for decades. All our mentees need are a strong enough computer and reliable internet access.
Recording Connection remote learning also lets you reach outside of the Albuquerque area to find a mentor you want to work with. We have more than 250 locations throughout the United States, which means you have access to more than 250 mentors. While learning inside the studio certainly gives you a unique perspective, you’ll still get the same education via our remote learning programs.

Recording Connection does a GREAT job at placing you into REAL studios with REAL engineers and opens the door to allow you to create those connections with your mentor, and continual learning. You truly get out of the program what you put in. Another great aspect of the program are the virtual advisors that can help you with question regarding Pro Tools and other material as well. I was very fortunate to have landed in Recording Connection, they helped me out since day one with my registration, and any paperwork needed. I was placed at ES Audio Studios in Glendale, CA. My mentor at the studio, Donny B. is very knowledgeable. He helped me through the process since the beginning. He helped me pick a great laptop suitable for Engineers. As a former mentee with another program for audio engineering coming to recording connection I wanted to have more hands on experience in the studio and allow myself to really immerse myself in the work. The hands on courses through recording connection are what sold me on the program and after finishing it I can say that those sessions are key contributors to why my music was able to take the next step. The online course would be helpful to a beginner and have a lot of value to some mentees but I found myself learning way more with my mentor than the online course. Overall an awesome learning experience over the last 6 months and i’m glad I found this opportunity.

Recording connection was such a great experience. I went from having 2-3 months of music production experience and once I got finished with the 6-month Recording Connection Beatmaking program, my growth accelerated 10-fold. I'm now at a point where I feel like I could eventually have a job working in the music industry! Everyday you are able to be with people that actually live the everyday life in the music industry. The teachers/mentors are phenomenal. They show you little "industry" secrets that would be hard to pick up on unless you were actually with professionals. This program also teaches you intangible traits. How to act in a studio session, how to treat rappers/musicians, when to ask and say certain things within a session, how to make yourself valuable etc. If you are looking for an alternative to traditional music school, this should definitely be your number one option.

I had such a great time with recording connections. My Academic Facilitator, Dougy, was awesome. This is my first time working with Ableton and I had absolutely zero knowledge on how the DAW worked or where to even start with producing music. Dougy walked me through it all the way and helped me lay down ideas I had and helped me develop them. He always answered whatever questions I had and showed me a bunch of cool producers and music he listened to or what he was working on. I learned a lot through this course and it has encouraged me to continue on with another course that I'm super excited about. I loved how hands on the course was and that it really encouraged me to get into it right away. Being introduced to all the hardware and synths that come along with producing really just got me more excited about this career. It was also awesome getting to work with G.W. Childs on a song and going through the process of producing a full song. I also loved that I got two different perspectives on music and how to produce. It's really helped me to find out what works for me and how to get the best workflow out of myself. They are also super flexible with when you schedule class time and if anything comes up they are understanding and make it easy to reschedule. Overall I highly recommend coming to Recording Connections if you're looking to start a music career or are already involved in one!
