FAQs

Mentors are instrumental in providing career advice and guidance. The Recording Connection believes mentors are teachers as well as people who can guide our students through our program. Your mentor is an experienced audio engineer or music producer who will provide personalized instruction to help you reach success.

Externships provide real-world experiences in learning by doing. Externs are taught one-on-one inside a genuine recording studio under the supervision of an experienced audio engineer or music business professional (according to each program). In addition, students receive comprehensive instruction with educational materials and eBooks that themselves require active engagement — no passive observers here! We strongly believe hands-on experience is essential for getting your foot in this door; not only does it demonstrate what you can do from Day 1 but it also provides invaluable networking opportunities.

Students become certified by putting in at least 10 hours of weekly externship experience. Most start off coming to the studio twice a week until they complete Lesson 4 or are four weeks into their training. However, hardworking and reliable students may have the opportunity for more visits per week — from three times a week to more during eight-hour sessions! Schedules can be flexible enough depending on your mentor’s availability, so you can still put in those extra hours even if it means slotting them during nights and weekends.
