Audio and Music Production School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Not like any other school, this is Audio Education Updated, Reimagined, and Revitalized. Are You Ready to Take Your Place?

We took that old stale classroom concept, rebuilt and upgraded it by putting your classroom in a professional recording studio. Then we emptied out all the other students and left only YOU and YOUR TEACHER (yay for one-on-one learning!) who happens to be a pro music producer (with killer credits) to train you privately (at your pace, full time, part time, nights or weekends available).

Your Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania MUSIC RECORDING SCHOOL ALTERNATIVE

We hit different and here is why:

You’ve spent time on the weekends with your buddies, writing, playing, and trying to record your music. And you’re good. If you’ve made the decision to make a real run in the music industry, there are a few tracks you can take with you. Continue to spend time a few hours a week, reading online tutorials or watching YouTube videos, and grow your skillset slowly over time.

Or you can turn to the professionals. There are several PITTSBURGH AUDIO ENGINEERING AND MUSIC PRODUCTION SCHOOLS to choose from, as well as “name” universities you move across the country to attend. You can spend years at these schools, spend six figures, and follow their rules.

In the end, you’ll have a piece of paper that says you spent four years in a classroom. Or you can enroll in the PITTSBURGH RECORDING CONNECTION programs. Your instructor is a PRO MUSIC PRODUCER, your facility is a PROFESSIONAL RECORDING STUDIO, and your curriculum is based on how the music business operates today, not a decade ago.

Instead of vying for your teacher’s attention, you’ll be placed in a real-world studio working one-on-one with your mentor. Get answers to your questions when you ask them, work with our Academics Facilitator to set a schedule (you do have a life outside of school, right?), and learn in accord with a curriculum that matches your needs.

You’ll be working in a pro recording studio, with the latest gear, and with actual clients. Fresh new local bands, established regional acts, and maybe even the occasional artist that’s known the world around. But this isn’t the time to get autographs. This is the time to work.

When you make the decision to enroll in the Recording Connection Audio Engineering & Music Production Program, you need to make a real commitment. The efforts you put in for the next six to nine months will go a long way to deciding whether or not you’ll have a job waiting for you.

After four years at a traditional 4-year university, you’ll get a firm handshake, a GPA, and a diploma. With Recording Connection, you could have three years of professional music-making experience (that means you’ll be getting paid) in that same amount of time. The decision is yours, but we happen to think it’s a pretty easy decision.

CLOSE TO HOME OR IN YOUR HOME

10 Miles, 10 Blocks, or 10 Seconds away from your future

As the second-largest city in Pennsylvania, the city offers those in the Keystone State an option other than Philadelphia when looking for AUDIO ENGINEERING AND MUSIC PRODUCTION SCHOOLS. With more than 250 locations throughout the U.S., chances are, Recording Connection has a studio near you.

But no matter how close we are to your front door, sometimes world events make it feel like we’re millions of miles apart. As 2020 proved, we may not always be as mobile as we’d like to be. Self quarantines and social distancing limited or shut down many institutions of higher learning. But not Recording Connection.

And although we didn’t plan for a pandemic specifically, we did want to make our particular educational system as accessible as we could. For decades we’ve been offering remote learning, allowing our students to work with mentors no matter how many miles of separation there are between them.

All you need is a fast enough computer with enough storage space and a reliable internet connection. In the studio or in your home, you’ll receive the same one-on-one attention from your mentor that Recording Connection specializes in. Why move hundreds—or even thousands—of miles away if you don’t have to?

WHAT WE OFFER

Work with the Stars or Amplify Your Sound

We’ve told you how you can save time and money by enrolling with the PITTSBURGH RECORDING CONNECTION. How you’ll work side-by-side with an industry insider, learn to move around a real-world studio, and interact with paying clients. All of which can be boiled down to a single word.

Opportunity.

From the moment you meet your mentor, you’ll be receiving opportunities just not available in a traditional educational setting. Think about it: will a college professor have a job for you after four years? You don’t want to work at a university, you want to be making money in a recording studio!

But if you make yourself irreplaceable during the time with your mentor, how can they let you get away. What does irreplaceable look like? Showing up on time, acting responsibly, working on your skills outside of the studio. It means not only learning how to use a digital audio workstation but putting what you learn into practice.

It means knowing when to make suggestions and when to hang back and let the magic happen. How to work with “the talent,” no matter what kind of music they play. How to prepare yourself for a session, how to set up the mics, and how to bring in your own clients to work.

If you can make the studio money, your mentors will see the potential opportunities you provide. Consider your Recording Connection education a months-long interview, with your mentor, other audio engineers and music producers, and every artist you work with.

PITTSBURGH MENTOR INFORMATION

Although mainly known for its steel—and it’s Steelers—Pittsburgh is also the home of some of our most successful Recording Connection mentors. Multiple Grammy award winners (including Latin and Native American awards), internationally known producers, and studios that are attached to live music venues and even skate parks!

Looking at their client base will tell you everything you need to know about our Pittsburgh mentors. Yes, they work with some of the biggest names in the industry: 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Dave Mathews, Richie Sambora, Nancy Wilson, Spyro Gyra, and more. But you need to look beyond the artists they work with to really understand what success looks like.

Our mentors work with Disney, Lionsgate Films, A&E Television, Sony, Warner Bros., and Universal. Beyond the entertainment industries, they’ve worked with public institutions (the Port Authority, Pittsburgh Zoo, University of Pittsburgh, U.S. Army) as well as private (Boys Scouts of America, Pennzoil, PPG Industries, and Westinghouse).

Rule no. 1 of being a successful audio engineer or music producer? Work with anyone you can. Rule no. 2: make sure you’re prepared and able to with everyone. Our mentors have outfitted their studios with Pro Tools HDX digital audio workstations, Trident and Neotek elite consoles, Yamaha monitors, and a variety of plug-ins, mics, instruments, and amps.
