Located near the Black Hills in western South Dakota, the town of Rapid City is home to around 67,000 people. Despite its relatively small size and remote location, Rapid City is a tourist spot due to its proximity to Mt. Rushmore National Memorial. As such, it hosts its own music and culture scene, being home to two orchestras and numerous local bands and musicians. While live local music occurs regularly in smaller venues around town, larger acts also make tour stops at the larger Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
A number of recording studios make their home in Rapid City to accommodate the needs of the music community here.
